Pet Owners without Pet Insurance Take Huge Risks

Filed under: Cats — John Sommer, PhD. @ 8:10 pm
by John Sommer, PhD.

If you already have your pet signed up for an insurance then great and congratulations! But if you haven’t then you might want to think it over once more just in case you weren’t thinking hard enough the first time.

Having to face not being able to pay the bill for pet surgery or for life long medication and therefore having to put your pet to rest is not something you would want to experience but it can be the harsh reality without a pet insurance.

In the following paragraphs I’ll talk to you about some of the benefits and disadvantages of having and not having pet insurance. You’ll have the final choice but it is important that it is based on an actual thought process.

Buying insurance is like playing the lottery. You can’t know upfront whether you’ll win or loose but if you don’t try you’ll definitely not win. If you have a good insurance policy and your pet gets badly injured you’re most likely going to benefit economically from having signed the contract. But sometimes nothing happens and you have paid the company a fee for “nothing”.

Having a pet insurance policy will give you a feeling of security because you know that if you’re ever presented with a large medical bill you’ll most likely have all of it paid for by the insurance company because that is what you have paid them to do.

Financial certainty and security is also a high priority for many people and the reason that pet insurance is as popular as it is, is that instead of having to pay large amounts of money if or when illnesses or accidents strike you can pay a little each month and don’t worry about the bills if or when they come.

One of the new things we’re seeing in pet insurance plans is that it includes different types of health offers that will assist you in keeping your pet fit. Exercise programs and suggestions for good pet food are just some of it.

Feeling secure might not be your thing and that is quite alright. You are the master of your pet and you decide what happens to it. As long as you have given it serious thoughts and that you have come to the conclusion that you’ll be able to pay if bad things do happen then your pet will still get what it needs.

How To Keep Your Pet Healthy

Filed under: Cats — Mr. John Sommer, PhD. @ 2:48 pm
by Mr. John Sommer, PhD.

Assuming that you are a pet owner and that you probably own either a cat or a dog (as that is what most pet owners do) I am not going to teach you something that you do not know but rather bring your attention to something that you might have forgotten.

* Amount of exercise: Both cats and dogs need physical activity. Movement is vital to any pet and the larger pet the more exercise is needed. That is why dogs will often require more exercise than cats.

* Exercise options: Whether you have a cat or a dog you can easily take the for a walk. Just put on a leash and go outside. If you live in a crowded city you might want to go to a park but if you live in the countryside you can just go for a walk in your neighborhood.

* Don’t spoil: Giving your pet food in excess amounts will be just as harmful for them as it is for you to overeat. The problem is that since they are pets they don’t know that what you’re giving them will actually harm them.

* Vitamins and minerals: Be sure to ask your VET what she recommends that you purchase for your pet. Some pet foods are better than others and you’ll most likely find that you can benefit from finding breed specific products.

* Affection: Show your pets that you truly and deeply love them. Hug them and tell them that you love them. You might think that they do not understand what you’re saying but I promise you that they can sense what you feel.

* Insurance and medication: Be sure to sign up for a pet insurance in case of emergencies. You never know what could happen and not being able to pay for proper surgery and medication will not be something you want to experience.

* Plan: Make sure you use a schedule for all major appointments. Be sure to note the regular VET check-ups and that your pet gets any medication or vaccines that it’ll need. Small things like these will add up in the long run.

Cat Owner Beware – You Might Be Hurting Your Pet

Filed under: Cats — Mr. John Sommer, PhD. @ 11:36 am
by Mr. John Sommer, PhD.

We can help but love our pets and they’re quickly becoming part of our lives. We would never want to hurt them but sometimes we’re doing things or not doing things that will actually have a negative effect on their health and physical condition.

Pet food have long been debated but more and more studies show that a lot of the illnesses and serious conditions that make our pets suffer is cause by us as pet owners. Not feeding the pets a high quality food will in effect have their immune system become less effective.

Eating poor nutrition and not getting the right amount of minerals, vitamins and proteins will have a slow but ever growing negative effect on any living being. The fastest and easiest solution to poor pet nutrition is to go get an appointment with your VET and have them recommend you on what to do. You’ll of cause need to follow their advice in order for it to work.

A lack of money is often the reason that people are not feeding their pets the right kind of food. High quality pet food is really expensive and most people will find it hard to justify to spend more money on food for their pets that they do on food for themselves.

But however you twist and turn it the outcome will still be the same. Malnutrition will lead to poor health, more illnesses and will result in our pets living a mediocre life. With a poor immune system viruses will sneak in on them and you’ll find them becoming ill more often as time goes by.

You will also find that its energy level will be lower that it ought to be and that it might not react as fast at it could. These are some of the things that can also result in serious injuries if it gets hit by cars or gets into other types of accidents.

With low levels of energy and when missing the essential building blocks of the body an accident or a serious illness will tend to go on for a lot longer because the body will not be as likely to heal itself fast.

In case you don’t want to or don’t have the financial ability to pay for the highly priced pet food that your pet would need then you might want to thing about signing your pet up for a low cost insurance plan. There are several great ones out there but you must know where to look to find them

Pet Sitting – A Modern Day Necessity

Filed under: Books about cats and kittens — Jeff K Gross @ 4:16 pm
by Exo Skelie

Pet ownership in America has often been associated with families, especially those who had someone to constantly attend to their pets’ needs. In the past, singles and couples who often worked didn’t have the luxury to own pets. However, as pets can now be trained to behave while their owners are away at work, they are now being considered more as family members and friends.

Today, the America Pet Products Association estimates that about 63% of the total number of American households are pet owners. The most popular animals chosen as pets are dogs, cats and birds especially since they are very affectionate and loyal to their owners. In turn, these pets also require an abundance of love and care.

Realistically, owners cannot always provide such love and care especially since their daily routine goes beyond home and work. Oftentimes, they face the dilemma of not knowing where or to whom they could safely entrust their pets when they have to be away for a long period of time either for vacation, an emergency trip or out-of-town engagements. For some owners, a day away from their pets is already agonizing, while for others, being away for more than a day is a big problem.

In the past, pet owners faced such dilemma by requesting their neighbors to regularly feed and occasionally look after their pets, or hauling their pets to a kennel or a relative’s house. These options are cumbersome for both the owners and pets: the owners for having to necessitate care for their pets from different people and the pets for having to deal with unfamiliar faces and environment. For pets, new faces and places can be very stressful, and to some extent, traumatic.

The good news for pet owners is that there is a better option to those previously mentioned. Pet sitting is a relatively new service in America which provides personalized care to pets while their owners are away. Pet sitting addresses two of the immediate problems often encountered by pet owners: unfamiliar care-givers and environment.

Pet sitting services allocate one pet sitter to an owner. The sitter will be the same face that a pet sees every time the service is needed. As such, familiarity and regularity is established within the pet’s environment, reducing its stress when its owner is not around. Pet sitters make sure that the habitual activities (e.g. food intake, recreation, physical training and grooming) are strictly followed, aside from the special instructions that owners usually request (e.g. scheduled vet check-up and medication). Pet sitters also ensure that pets are showered with love and attention the way their owners treat them.

Finally, pet sitting guarantees that only professional pet sitters provide this service. Hence, they are able to ascertain a pet’s needs which owners sometimes fail to notice (e.g. vet schedules, new and effective shots). Beyond these, sitters also make sure that an owner’s house is safe.

Pet sitting is an owner’s way of keeping its pet safe and well-loved. Try it, if you are one! The comfort it brings might just give you a pleasant surprise.

Going Away? Hire a Pet Sitter in the Comfort of Your Home

Filed under: Books about cats and kittens — Benny Hana @ 7:36 am
by Jeffrey Gross

Over the years, more and more Americans have decided to expand their lives by acquiring pets that essentially serve as extensions of themselves. In the past, families were traditionally seen as the ones who could responsibly own pets, especially since one

Based on the 2005-2006 National Pet Owner Survey of the America Pet Products Association, pet ownership is now 63% of the country’s total households. Most of these households prefer dogs, birds and cats for pets. This is mainly due to their loving personalities as well as their faithfulness to their owners, traits that pet owners are endeared to. In return for such love, owners also lavish their pets with attention and affection.

The quality of love and care that owners give to their pets are often threatened when the owners have to temporarily hand over their pets to other people. This often arises when owners have to travel and be away from home for a long period of time. The separation of owners and their pets are often emotionally taxing and worrisome.

Previously, owners had no choice but seek the kindness of their neighbors to at least feed their pets or in other instances, bring their pets to a new environment where they could seek temporary shelter such as the house of a family/friend or a kennel. Most of the experiences of those who have taken these options have often been heartbreaking: either their pets weren’t cared for as expected or their pets were stressed by the new environment. The bottom line for owners: leaving their pets is as stressful for them as it is for their pets.

Today, owners are now given a new option for caregiving: the pet sitting service. This is one of the modern innovations in the country which allows owners to have the flexibility to leave their pets to a familiar face in the comfort of their own homes. Hence, this service deals with the stress and shock that owners and pets often undergo when both are separated from each other.

Pet sitting ensures that an assigned pet sitter equally provides the same love and care that pets are used to getting from their owners. A pet sitter that gets assigned to an owner becomes the regular sitter at all times. This process ensures that pets are accustomed to the same person, which reduces their stress every time their owners are away. Pet sitters see to it that all routines and quirks shared by owners and their pets are carried out, including eating, fun and exercise activities. Pet sitters also see to it that all tasks outside the routine are performed (e.g. medication and vet check-up).

Pet sitting is an entirely refreshing experience for pet lovers and owners alike. Be part of such
